In 2005 the village school was extended to almost twice it's original size.
The additional room, a colourful nursery and separate, secure external play area with safety surfaces, enabled a pre-school group to open for children from 3 years. This is open for two hours in the afternoon and gives the youngsters a chance to get to know the teachers, pupils and how school life works before joining full time at 4 years old.
The new and refurbished ancillary accommodation with underfloor oil fired heating system complements the extension and the premises are fully adaptable for disabled users. An enlarged hall and community room are sympathetically incorporated with the existing Victorian building to provide a modern school in the National Park setting. Environmental performance is enhanced by the provision of solar panels for hot water which were designed and installed by PCC Building Services Engineers. Detailed information is available from a display board in the school hall.
Accommodation comprises:
Early years unit, accommodation for three year olds with separate play areas
Refurbished classrooms with electronic whiteboards
Enlarged hall
Ancillary accommodation includes new and refurbished management rooms and personal care facilities.
Community room
Externally, improvements have been made to car parking and playground areas.
The school has a very large playing field.

A new Early Years Learning Unit has been officialy opened at Coastlands School.
The nursery facility at the St Ishmaels-based school will provide part- time education for up to 26 pupils between the ages of three and four and benefits from a separate outdoor play area with safety surfaces.
Pembrokeshire County Council's Chairman, Councillor Steve Watkins, officially opened the new unit -together with a hall extension and classroom refurbishments - on Tuesday (May 16th).
Councillor Watkins said the £525,000 project aimed to equip the communities of the peninsular with a school fit for the future.
"I am certain that the nursery will provide a wonderful environment to introduce children to the world of education and help them grow and develop to their potential," he said.
"It will also prove an extremely valuable resource for the school, which serves the six communities of St Ishmaels, Dale, Marloes, St Brides, Waterston and Herbrandston - and indeed the wider community as a whole."
Other work carried out at the school includes the refurbishment of classrooms with electronic whiteboards, while the enlarged hall and community rooms have been sympathetically incorporated within the existing Victorian building.
The school's outside car park and playground areas have been improved while its environmental performance has been enhanced
by the provision of solar panels for hot water.
The work has been funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, Pembrokeshire County Council and the Department of Trade and Industry's Clear Skies Grant.
